Budding trout anglers are being offered the chance to 'have a go' at fly tying or fly fishing for free as part of Anglian Water's contribution to National Fishing Month.
Pitsford Water has already seen qualified instructors offering their expertise to newcomers, and now it's the turn of Grafham Water tomorrow and Rutland Water on August 6. The coaches are available from 10am to 4pm and no booking is required, although you do need to be at least 12 years old. Just turn up and enjoy!
Meanwhile boat fishing for pike has been extended at Pitsford Water, and is now available every day except Saturdays. Call Pitsford Lodge on 01604 781350.
* With Solihull's Barston Lakes in excellent form at the moment, the venue's annual Barston Bowl was a 110-peg sell-out several weeks ago.
With every peg on the Big Lake in, the weights were down from the previous day's Maver Pairs match, with saw five ton-up weights come from the lake, with current UK Champion Tommy Pickering winning with 125lb
However, it still took over 40lb to win all but two of the sections and there were six bags over 50lb, topped by Warwick's Tim Bull. Tim fished in open water with a mighty 90-yard cast to the centre of the lake to take carp to double figures, and a dozen large shimmers, all taken on the Method feeder. England's Will Raison finished second with 77lb.
* Hoar Park Fishery near Ansley in Warwickshire will be hosting a junior angling series, starting August 7, with stacks of prizes including tackle vouchers up to ã100, trophies and medals.
