SHANE "Shakey" Byrne smashed the Brands Hatch Indy lap record this afternoon with a hotlap of 45.112secs around the Kent track.
The two-times BSB champion had already proved himself to be the fastest man on two wheels around the circuit a lap previous when he knocked his HM Plant Honda team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari down to P2 with a 45.171.
But the local hero still had a little bit left in the tank as he knocked in a second fast lap, this time clocking the 45.112, a time which was to go unbeaten with just 26 seconds of the session remaining.
TOMMY Hill was back on dominant form as he took Pole for Bank Holiday Monday's MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park.
The Worx Crescent Suzuki pilot pipped Hawick's Stuart Easton to the top spot, after a Swan Roll for Pole which became a battle royale between the closely matched pair.
Although it was the Swan Honda of Easton who had been holding the top spot as the chequered flag fell on the third and final qualifying session, Hill's hotlap of 1.35.214mins was enough to steal the place.
JAMES Ellison has broken his femur in a high-speed crash at Thruxton today.
The Kendal rider, who had quickly become one of the favourites to take the title in this year's MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, lost control of his Swan Honda machine at the sweeping right-hand Goodwood section of the Hampshire circuit.
The crash saw him highside across the top and land heavily, and he was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a broken femur.
