THE HM Plant Honda of Shane Byrne outpaced Swan Yamaha's Tommy Hill in both of today's Free Practice Sessions at Thruxton.

Byrne came out strong from the outset, putting in a series of fast laps straight away, beating the Swan Yamaha of Hill by a quarter of a second at the end of the second session.

Byrne has already won four outings at this Hampshire circuit, three of which were in his title winning years, and he is keen to build on his victory at Croft two weeks ago.

SHANE "Shakey" Byrne smashed the Brands Hatch Indy lap record this afternoon with a hotlap of 45.112secs around the Kent track.

The two-times BSB champion had already proved himself to be the fastest man on two wheels around the circuit a lap previous when he knocked his HM Plant Honda team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari down to P2 with a 45.171.

But the local hero still had a little bit left in the tank as he knocked in a second fast lap, this time clocking the 45.112, a time which was to go unbeaten with just 26 seconds of the session remaining.

JONATHAN Rea got his 2010 campaign off to a flying start by clocking the fastest time in the three day Infront Motor Sports official Superbike test session at Portimao in Portugal.

The Northern Ireland rider led an all British top four as the the chequered flag fell on the official test.

And the HANNSpree Ten Kate rider's fastest lap of 1.42.270secs was faster than 2009 champ Ben Spies' Polesetting time of last season.

spies elbows.jpgBEN Spies took an impressive victory in Race One of the World Superbike Championship at Misano - while Brit Shane Byrne celebrates a well-deserved second place.

In a race which was dictated by the weather, it was Texas Terror Spies who made all the right choices to take the win.

Ducati Xerox rider Michel Fabrizio took the final podium spot, just beating polesitter Jakub Smrz across the line at the chequered flag.
