The Smiler app will bring the new coaster to life on mobile and tablet, consisting of an exciting 3D simulation of the ride. Players will take control of the ride cars and navigate their way around the coaster in as perfect a line as possible. Gamers will also be able to experience intense thrills, twists and turns of the ride and will be rewarded with upgrade points to spend on a wide range of elements. Based on the coaster's Marmaliser feature - there are aspects that will mess with the rider's body and mind including effects such as flashing lights, optical illusions, laughing gas and tickling prongs.

The game also gives players the opportunity to unlock hidden content using Augmented Reality technology once they visit the theme park, including accessing additional images, videos and secret upgrades for the game.

Built in Unity 3D and released across Android and iOS for mobiles and tablets, the game also gives players the opportunity to win a range of fantastic Alton Towers Resort prizes. Players can spin a wheel for free each day, or use the points generated through the game to win additional spins.

Developed by the award winning production team at Matmi, The Smiler app brings together several intricate development techniques; blending gameplay, competitions and augmented reality in a completely new package for theme parks.

Katherine Duckworth, head of Consumer Marketing at the Alton Towers Resort, comments: "The Smiler is the biggest ever ride launch for the Alton Towers Resort and so we really wanted to create something that would get our guests excited about the ride and give them a taste of what is to come before the new coaster opens in May 2013."

Matmi CEO Jeff Coghlan says: "Being based in Cheshire, we've all grown up with Alton Towers, so to get a chance to work with the team and create a game for The Smiler has been a great pleasure. We're firm believers in the positives of campaigns that bring digital and physical worlds together, and we're really excited to unleash The Smiler app for Alton Towers Resort. It has enabled us to meld gamification, augmented reality and gaming all into one fantastic app."

The app is available now through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

An investment of £18 million, The Smiler is the new world first rollercoaster coming to Alton Towers Resort in 2013. Visit for more details.

BOUND Round, the new series of travel apps for kids by kids, is set to launch its first destination app: Sydney.

The Bound Round series of interactive travel apps use stories, photos, videos and games and are designed to work on both iOS and Android platforms.

Kids can use the apps to discover - through play - all the fun things to do in their chosen holiday destination - and kill time on the journey there. The app can also be used by kids as an electronic travel journal that allows kids to capture and share their travel adventures and as an invaluable travel planning tool for parents.

The first destination guide, for Sydney, will be launched in December - just in time for school holidays, with other destinations to follow in the New Year.

To ensure that the Bound Round content, and the activities and attractions chosen for each destination are absolutely spot-on, Bound Round is establishing a Kids Board of Directors.

Kids board members are appointed for a 12-month period. The kids will be asked to provide honest feedback on the guide. Board members will also produce a video telling viewers what they love about their home-town which will be included on the app as part of the "Meet a Local Kid" section.

Designed for kids to play with before and during their holiday, there are two versions of Bound Round, for 4 to 7-year olds and 8 to 12-year olds. With Read Alone and Read to Me functionality both versions are suitable for kids at all reading ability levels.

By capturing if a child "had fun" in each Bound Round location, the apps provide parents with feedback from the kids on the activities they really want to do when they get there and then provides information on how to get there, opening hours and even discounts available only to Bound Round customers.

For the 8-12 year old version, when the kids are in a location they can create their own content (photos, drawing, writing/typing) in the "My Passport" section of the app. This section also allows the kids to create an e-postcard and email it directly to friends and family.

Bound Round is passionate about the development of children and the provision of worldwide equality in education. It therefore feels natural for us to partner with the Room to Read foundation to help raise funds for the education of children in third world communities.

Over the last 10 years over 6 million underprivileged children in Asia and Africa have benefited from Room to Read's programs and their goal is to reach 10 million children by 2015. To help Room to Read reach their goal, we're donating of 5c from every app sold to support this fantastic organisation!

celebrities.jpgTICKET price comparison website has teamed up with sister site UK Theatre Web to launch a free 'app' for Android smart phones which will help users to find out information about shows, concerts and theatre productions around the country.

The 'app' links with the extensive UK Theatre Web database which lists around 20,000 events and will allow users to search for shows, productions and concerts by area.

Once users have found what they're looking for they will be shown a range of information including cast, tour and venue details as well as accredited STAR (Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers) suppliers offering tickets or the box office telephone number and website link. Once you've seen the show the 'app' also allows you to add star ratings and reviews which can be read by other users.

The 'app' can be downloaded for free from the Android Market (search for UKTW) and is designed to provide basic listings details even if no internet connection is available. Smart phones which use the Android platform include HTC, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nexus.

UK Theatre Web and founder Robert Iles said: "We recognise that more and more people are now using their smart phones to access information on the move so we've developed this free 'app' for the Android platform to help theatre and concert fans find out listings and ticket information quickly and easily. Whether they're just looking for somewhere to go that evening or planning a night out in the future this 'app' will help them to find the information they need wherever they happen to be." helps customers to find, compare and buy theatre, gig and event tickets across the UK.

Visitors to the website can search for specific productions and gigs if they know exactly what tickets they want or browse types of shows and events before checking ticket availability and pricing. Useful charts showing hot tickets, new tickets, show openings and closings and a minimum/maximum price table all help theatre and gig goers to get tickets for the show they want to see at the very best deal. Using to buy theatre, concert and event tickets will save you time and money.

UKTW powers the 'What's On' content for a range of well known theatre websites including where users can search for theatre production information dating back as far as 1997 - content that will eventually be searchable directly via the app.
