ON SATURDAY, June 8 join Twinlakes Family Theme Park, Melton Mowbray and Gem106 as it marks its 10th anniversary.
Ride the rides, slide the slides, enjoy the live entertainment and stay late to watch the fireworks. Guaranteed to be an action packed day of fun and celebrations for the whole family to enjoy.
One day, 10 years ago three brothers from Devon travelled 260 miles to Melton Mowbray after spotting an advert in the Farmers Weekly for 'Tumbledown Farm for sale'. They packed their bags, bringing their award-winning Theme Park to our doorsteps.
Investing over 5 million pounds the three brothers rolled up their sleeves and put all their time and effort into the park opening the gates to the public ten months later.
Since opening on 20th September 2003 Twinlakes has seen a whirlwind of events and highlights along with the investment of over a further 15 million pounds towards development making the park the 100 acres of attractions it is today. With three acres of undercover fun the Gladiators Coliseum in Labyrinth Venture Zone was awarded the UK's biggest indoor play structure in 2004. Welcoming the installation of new attractions such as the Buffalo Stampede, Gladiators Galleon, Iron Moose Express Train, the Dragonfall's Log Flume, the Susanoo Splash Play, a popular attraction throughout the summer season and the latest edition the NEW £250,000 Santa's Grotto to the Winter Wonderland Experience. Director Mike Bendall commented 'We constantly strive to deliver the ultimate all weather family experience and are continually investing in order to sustain in an extremely competitive industry. We are lucky to have a highly responsible and committed team.'
From cuddles with the Easter Bunny, to free pumpkin carving, seeing Santa in his grotto to arts and crafts galore open all year round there is always fun and games to be had. As the days draw shorter visit Twinlakes Family Scream Park if you dare... Voted best seasonal daytime Halloween event 2011. Fancy a big scare? Introduced in 2012, Xtreme Fright Nights recommended for 12 years and over. And not forgetting the Spectacular Twinlakes Firework and Bonfire Festival, the renowned event filling the skies of Melton Mowbray! And if that's not enough, as part of a long term objective to make the park invisible Twinlakes has planted over 50,000 trees and millions of plants and bulbs.
Over the past 10 years Twinlakes has seen a selection of famous faces including Gem106 radio presenters Sam, Amy and Dangerous Dave, TV stars such as Peppa and George Pig, world famous robot Titan, as seen on TV dancing alongside Rhianna. Not forgetting our Red Rooster Farm stars Wilma the Pig who appeared on 'The Sharon Osborne Show' and Lonely Lilly the singleton meerkat who found love online making a star appearance on the BBC's 'Have I Got News For You'.
As the park has grown, so has the Twinlakes team. Going from less then 100 staff in 2005 to over 200 in 2010. Introducing hundreds of teenagers into the working world and welcoming back many familiar faces during university breaks. Many staff having grown with the park to become valued permanent members of the team.
Emma Gardner, Assistant to the Park and Marketing Manager, said: "I joined the team in March 2004 as a catering ranger aged 15. Over the past 9 years I have shared some unforgettable experiences being part of the development of the park and myself as a working professional. Who knows what the next 10 years have in store but I cannot wait!"
IF YOU fancy heading down to Nottingham next week, you could be in for a giant surprise - seeing dinosaurs!
The multi-award winning arena spectacular Walking with Dinosaurs is back and its cast of pre-historic giants is set to astound and educate a brand new generation of budding palaeontologists at the Capital FM Arena from May 15-19 as part of a nationwide tour.
Walking With Dinosaurs LIVE (Photo credit: e53)
Expertly narrated, educational and featuring 20 life-size dinosaurs and ten different species, including the T Rex, Stegosaurus and Brachiosaurus, audiences will learn how they evolved during their 200-million-year domination of life on earth and find out about the huge climatic and tectonic changes that took place. Oceans form, volcanoes erupt, a forest catches fire -all leading to the impact of the massive comet, which struck the earth, and forced their extinction.
Walking with Dinosaurs - The Arena Spectacular is brought to the UK by Global Creatures, headed by CEO Carmen Pavlovic, in association with BBC Worldwide.
The dazzling £12.5million arena spectacle, which has been seen by more than 7m people in a staggering 206 cities across the world, is directed by Scott Faris.
He said: "We wanted to create a family show that was visually astounding but also scientifically accurate and just as informative as the original BBC series . The sight and impact of these life-size dinosaurs combined with the journey the audience go on from their evolution to extinction, means that children are gripped from the beginning as they watch these formidable creatures and learn about their time on earth."

HOLIDAY Nanny, the childcare solution for parents who love to travel, has launched their new venture - Holiday Mannies!
Responding to increasing requests for male nannies (Mannies!) to help families - Holiday Nanny has recruited a pool of Mannies with a range of talents and backgrounds. "We now have Sports Coaches, Swimming Coaches, Drama Teachers and even a Surfing Coach! We also have Mannies with experience with children with Special Needs - both physical and mental. These guys are a very positive addition to an already exceptional list of Holiday Nannies."
The Holiday Mannies are already getting bookings and they aren't just for families with boys as single mother, Catherine Wilson insists; "I have 3 girls and having a male holiday nanny was a great idea - Nick was proactive and practical but also fun and outgoing - he also helped re-dress the female:male balance in our family! Even the prestigious nanny training college, Norland, has recently announced their first male student - Michael Kenny - so - just as in Mary Poppins - perhaps there is a change in the air!"
Holiday Nanny acts in a similar way to an exclusive dating agency. The company retains a small pool of highly experienced and talented childcare professionals who offer short-term childcare help, accompanying families whilst they travel - either abroad or within the UK. It finds out about the family themselves along with their travel plans and any hobbies the kids enjoy. Holiday Nanny then matches the family with their perfect nanny. The vast majority of nannies travel with the family, therefore also providing a helpful hand en route.
Whilst many apply to become Holiday Nannies, only a small handful are accepted each year. The company is stringent about reference checks and each applicant is personally vetted by the owner - ex-Goldman Sachs banker, Nicky Grant, herself. In essence she looks for a certain kind of personality as well as skill and experience. "I have a strict benchmark for each nanny - if I wouldn't take them on holiday with my family then they don't join the register."
Holiday Nanny offers a standard or bespoke service. Standard fees are currently £469 for one week, or £883 for a fortnight. This includes 45 hours of childcare per week plus a total of 14 hours evening babysitting spread over 4 nights. Families pay additionally for flights, food and accommodation for their nanny. Holiday Nanny does not charge a registration or 'finding' fee.
In 2008 Holiday Nanny was a winner in BT's Essence of Entrepreneur Award with judges including Peter Jones from BBC's Dragons Den.

AL FRESCO Holidays has teamed up with children's author, Jeremy Strong, in a hunt to find Britain's best young story writers.
The competition encourages children to use their imagination and write a story about a fantastic journey to be in with the chance of winning a family holiday of a lifetime.
Budding writers have until March 31 to submit a story no longer than 500 words about a journey, whether real or imaginary. Al Fresco hopes the task will give children free reign to write about how they travel, who they travel with and where they go, stretching the limits of their imagination to create a truly unique and exciting story.
A random entry a day will be uploaded onto the kidz blog on the Al Fresco Holidays website for everyone to read. The top five will be judged for the chance to win a holiday to an Al Fresco parc of their choice and all will receive runners up prizes.
For inspiration, Jeremy Strong, author of 77 children's novels, one of which was made into a popular BBC children's TV series, has penned his very own short story, "Joe's Unusual Journey", exclusively for Al Fresco Holidays and is offering his top five tips for aspiring writers:
1. Create memorable characters, make them so real they come alive in your mind
2. Don't write too much! Making your story long doesn't make it into a good story
3. Get your story off to a good start, don't spend too much time on setting things up or writing descriptions of places
4. Always go for the unexpected, don't write things the reader will be expecting
5. Read it out loud to yourself, this will help you notice where you have written things that don't make sense or are boring!
Jeremy Strong, said: "It's highly important to feed a child's imagination and encourage individual writing. Reading and writing is key for a child's development and I'm very much looking forward to judging an enormous variety of unique stories."
Nick Riggs, managing director at Al Fresco Holidays adds: "We ran a highly successful young travel writers competition in 2012 and we expect this year to be bigger and better with more entries.
"Children have a rich and varied imagination that can eke its way out if given the chance, this competition is aiming to do just that."
